GICA 1: Blog Setup
Hi! My name is Wilmer Acosta-Florez, I'm an english major with plans to work for online publishers (slate, edge, NYT magazine) to provide original, editorial and journalistic content aimed at a mass audience. My main passion is film and all the elements that blend together to make up the film. Someday I hope to achieve a pie-in-the-sky dream of mine to work in film production, preferably in some creative capacity. I love to read--fiction/non-fiction-- and write, as well as play the saxophone on my spare-time(yeah-right) and looking to finish school entrenching myself in subjects that are dear to me.
Admittedly my experience with professional/educational technologies is slight but I'm willing and able to learn. I've dabbled a fair amount in more user-friendly applications(word, pages, blogger, tumblr) and am familiar with many of the popular social media sites like facebook, and twitter. Educational tech is essentially foreign concept because I'm not familiar with the concepts and sheer breathe of skill that a teacher must posses in order to succeed in a modern environment. From an outsiders perspective there appears to be a heavier emphasis on classroom tech; more and more is being asked of instructors and professors alike.
In this class, I hope to learn if not the scope of what would be required of the instructor--the basic tools, concepts, application, and jargon that would further aid me down the line. I will take advantage of the opportunity to stand in front of a class of my peers and work on my speaking skills. There is always something new around the corner, some application to consider and so forth, the methods and handling of the basic things would be essential. I'm excited about the prospects of the course.

The good thing about today's technologies is that most of them are user-friendly. If not, nobody will use it or it will eventually evolve to be user-friendly. I am glad that you see this as an opportunity to practice speaking skills. Yes, being a teacher needs speaking skills and it is an super important skill that almost is required by any human-related jobs. Maybe you haven't thought about being a teacher in the future, but learning happens not only in the schools and teaching are not simply dumping concepts to the audiences. That being said, learning and instruction can happen in a lot of forms. For example, if you work for publishers, you may need to go through a online training about InDesign. Or if you work for the film industry, when it comes to deliver your creative ideas, you can have much more options if you know different technologies and use them in a engaging way.
