Diigo is an effective tool for disseminating information with fellow instructors looking to coordinate on teaching points. Students can keep track of many of the supplementary materials a teacher could send out for aid with homework. What makes the application really exciting for children is that they can use this tool amongst themselves to help study for exams, similar to the way many of us use forums to gather and disperse information. A user friendly tool devoid of many of the toxic elements prevalent in other applications.
Power point has always been a tried and true application capable of compartmentalizing large amounts of information--UNDERSTANDING--into small digestible slide presentations. For this reason, ANALYZING and EVALUATING come easy and effectively to the student. For example, profiles on public figures can pop out with combined use of image and text--embedded videos can help tap into the imagination. Suddenly, learning about George Washington isn't as two dimensional as it could be. I've seen more advanced powerpoint presentations apply games into their pages, encouraging students to click on illustrated figures, which respond by explaining their significance in American history. Thus, CREATING and UNDERSTANDING run hand in hand because students who are engaged with the subject, and perceive themselves to have fun have a higher cahnce of retaining or REMEMBERING information.
Medium is my favorite site to visit whenever I wish to keep track about the various technological advancements occurring. What distinguishes this particular sight from others is the sleek/clean designed as well as the thoughtful and informative articles that don't just explain a piece of tech, but also delves into the ramifications of thoughtful/naive implementation. With tectonic shifts occurring seemingly every few months, it can be stressful to try and wrap ones head around complicated design theory and gnarly nomenclature. Sites like these are doing god's work by curating thoughtful, user-friendly content.

Glad you liked the Diigo activity. It actually can be used for a lot of purposes because of its Web 2.0 nature. The point is to build up a community and start to curate content.
